Accrington born artists.
Recently I've come across quite a few people who were born in the area, and who are/were working professionally as artists.

Another professional artist - my mum
A lot of you may not know her name but you'll recognise some of her work. She was, until recently a pub sign artist. It's a very specialised field and there are only a few well known ones. Links to a few of her signs - The Sundial > English Pub Signs | The J. Peterman Company Astra Antique Centre - PUB SIGN WHITTINGTON CAT She used to do a lot of work for Thwaites and Whitbread - The Stop and Rest, The Plough, The Wheatsheaf and The Heys were all hers for a long time. I think the one outside the Golden Cross still bears her name, plus the Black Dog. |

There is a chap called Brian Ormerod who deserves to be in the front row. He paints and does fantastic sculpture. He was employed as an artist at Joseph Arnold's and then was taken out to America. He returned home to care for his mother and worked as a chef. Now fully retired I think. Lived in India Street most of his life, now up Spring Hill way.A very modest man but fantastically talented.
