Blackburn

Not content with poaching Diana Vickers as a Blackburn Lass
( though many on this forum would dispute that !)
Blackburn can lay claim to the famous Alfred Wainwright
who moved to the Lake District and became very famous !

When Diana was on X-Factor, her home was in Huncoat, where she lived with her mother.

What on earth as Wainwright got to do with Accy Web's Hall of fame?

Re: Blackburn

Theres still a lot of rivalry between Accy and Blackburn,
Alfred has achieved world fame for his brilliant books
on the Lake District, can Accy come up with anyone of
equal status ?

This isn't a competition.

I'm sure Blackburn Web would love you to start a Hall of Fame thread.

You can start with me. As I was educated at Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School, Blackburn.

As for Accrington's literary progeny, there are numerous authors mentioned in these threads.

I suppose the greatest living writer would have to be Jeanette Winterson. Someone who'd be known in literary salons worldwide...unlike Wainwright, who's really just a national figure, popular amongst thick booted weirdy beardies.

Re: Blackburn

Of course, Jeanette, she was always on telly at one time
and became famous very young.
Born in Manchester, but with that accent, definitely a Lancashire Lass !

She's still often on television.

She's a regular guest critic on the Culture Show, as well as being a panelist on Question Time, and has been a guest on many radio programmes.

She was adopted and was brought up in Accrington aged ten days old.
