Eminent Heart Surgeon
Just thought I'd mention John Wallwork, one of the pioneers of heart transplant surgery at the Papworth Hospital Cambridgeshire. John grew up in Fielding Lane Ossy, opposite Rhyddings Park in the semi detached house, he attended Accrington Grammar School on Blackburn Road before going to Edinburgh University to study to become a doctor. During his days in Ossy in his early teens he was part of the group I knocked about with at the local Youth Club and regulars at both Accy Con and The Jazz Club at the old Stanley supporters club at Peel Park. He as a real fun guy who liked a good laugh, bet he had a great bedside manner, Think the last time I saw him he was on the Terry Wogan chat show on the Beeb, when he discussed the use of animal organs (mainly through bread pigs) in human transplants, but never heard much about it since
