Remember Simon at the Grammar School. Left at the end of the 5th form to go to Art College rather than stay on and do his A levels if I remember right.

Thanks.

It's great when people remember some of these people we're uncovering.

I bring to notice Gordon Birtwistle, MP for Burnley (LibDem) who attended Hyndburn Park School 1954-58. Before becoming MP he was a recent Mayor of Burnley.

Re: Noted living Accringtonians.

Freda Lightfoot -romantic novelist, has written over 30 best-sellers. I believe she was originally from Oswaldtwistle -she certainly lived there in her youth as my mother used to go to Sunday School with her.
She and my mother have been in touch via e-mail over the last year -she now lives for most of the year in Spain.

She is a good friend of my Aunty Anne and they meet up once in a while when she's over doing signings for her latest books.

Tried reading one last time I was over at mum's but they are not my scene..

Gordon live in Ossy all through his youth, worked for an Engineering company in Ossy for years (can't remember the name) In his early years he was a very active member of the Labour Party, but left when the SDP was formed in the early 80s
