Ics

I've been trying for more than 3months now to access Internet from my laptop. Have got ICS set-up on network (Desktop (DT) and Laptop (LT)) with ADSL modem on DT and gateway from the LT. What do I do next? Tried raising a browser on LT but it wants to dial out (hmm.. there is a dial-up modem in the LT).

Can anyone help?

Thanks,

Re: Ics

Check your network is set up correctly. Have you assigned IP addresses manually or let windows manage it? IMHO Windows makes a right pigs ear of it. Is the network wired or wifi? Can you 'ping' between the laptop and the desktop? Is the gateway setup on the laptop(it should be the IP address of the desktop)? You mention ICS is setup on both laptop and desktop, you shouldn't set any ICS on the laptop. all that is required there is the gateway. If you can ping the desktop try pinging an external IP address (216.239.39.99 is one of googles servers and a good one to test with). It could just be that DNS isn't working correctly(again someting that Windows is very good at not doing correctly).

As far as your browser is concerned, in the internet settings check for a setting for 'never dial a connection' and set it if it isn't already set.

If you want to catch me on MSN/Yahoo/AIM to talk you through it all feel free to add me as a buddy, my details are in my profile. At worst if you want to pick me up during the day one day I can pop round(I can't drive at the mo due to an op). PM me if this is the best way, it will take me about 30 mins all in to sort.
