Re: whats the best firewall?
Linux!
You seem to have multiple versions of AV. This can often cause problems. You should only need one AV as long as you keep it up to date. As for pop up stoppers etc if you start using Firefox you don't need any third party software. This will make life far simpler to manage your PC and make it a lot easier to solve problems like you are experiencing.

Re: whats the best firewall?
I was thinking that was probably overkill as well!
Some av software does conflict with others, so one good one is best, as long as you keep it up to date.

Re: whats the best firewall?
A good FREE anti virus and what not can be found here, It's AVG: http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php
To purchase, after using Norton Interent Security, I would strongly suggest Mcafee Internet Security. I find it amazing!

I saw in Which? magazine a few months back that Adaware and Spybot were the most effective programs when used together

staggers dont worry avg and ad-aware are looking for differant things what ad-aware is looking for is NOT a virus as such .
avg IS looking for viruses .

Re: whats the best firewall?
I use Sygate Personal firewall, it's very good
and I use Kaspersky Antivirus.. I HATE the likes of norton/mcafee.. they don't seem to cut it for me, dosn't seem to detect as much as they should and seem very resource heavy in that they take forever to load unless you go for the enterprise editions..

Re: whats the best firewall?
well when I got my new comp it had mcafee on trial on it so used that for a couple of months then I found a disc (thanks to mick after mcafee had let a trojan through and mick came and sorted it!!) for ez armor that had come with the comp which was the full upto date version. I've found it great and it automatically searches for updates when you go online

Re: whats the best firewall?
I use Trend PC-Cillin, and not had any problems with it so far.
The best firewall you can have is probably a in router, rather than through software, but then who wants to fork out for a router if you don't need to?
If you want to set up a network you will need one though

Re: whats the best firewall?
Technically you don't need a router to set up a network You could just use a hub or even (although VERY complicated) you could daisy chain PCs with 2 network cards in each and then setup routing tables although it would be a REAL ball ache to do and maintain.
