Re: Youtube to block uk users
Just picked this up to explain what the PRS are up to with the full backing of the courts.
At work yesterday we were told we can no longer have radios on. It's all to do with the PRS (Performing Rights Society) having a clampdown on Public Performance licences. It's always been the case that you should have a license to play music which could be heard by the public but here in the North West they are currently having a clampdown. They are doing spot checks and can issue a fine of £1000 if you don't have the license. Apparently they sometimes phone up and if they hear music they pay you a visit!
The firm I work for have decided that the £229ish that it will cost is too much and so have made us remove all radios from the building which is fair enough I suppose. I did offer to contribute but nothing came of it.
Last week tyre chain Kwik Fit were find over £250,000, that's £1000 for each depot, so this is a serious move by the PRS. Personally I think they are shooting themselves in the foot. I buy a couple of CD's a month and it's usually new stuff that I heard on the radio and took a fancy to. Now I won't be hearing new music so will probably end up buying less CD's.
Anyone else in the same boat and can think of a way around it?
