Is this in addition to or instead of elsewhere? If it means new jobs then I'm all for it.

Re: Walker Steele moving To Church?

According to the Observer, it's not Walker Steel. It is a company that is part run by Jack Walker's son, and they are already based in Church. They employ about forty people, and hope to take on ten more workers.

Still good news, though the fear that Church may be have to demolished to accomodate a masssive warehouse, measuring many hundeds of acres, is unwarranted.

just curious , has any work ever been done to reinforce the canal bridge, I remember from my days as an apprentice at Rothwells the bigger trucks allways used to have problems getting over the 'hump' and turning onto Blackburn rd. I've allways thought the warehouse building should be preserved and restored , just hope no-one decides to knock it down to make an easier access for a steel distribution plant

No the bridge is still there and wagons still struggle at times. not too sure about the reinforcememnt of it though.

Wonder if Walker Steel would put roof on Clayton End as a sponsership deal????

Re: Walker Steele moving To Church?

I think you'll find the bridge is plenty strong enough for the steel wagons as they only run at 44 ton, there used to be a packaging firm down bridge street and they used to get wagons going in well over 44 ton, nearing 100 at times, to travel at them weights you run out of "construction and use" regulations and go into the STGO cat 1, 2 or 3, and everything is checked for the route you are taking, ie road/bridge weight limits, bridge heights, bt cables etc
Only problems I have known on the bridge are with low loaders being too low, no problem with an ordinary artic
