Re: Accrington Railway Station

Nice photographs and a very poignant reminder of when the town used to have a proper railway station, instead of just two semi-derelict platforms.

Re: Accrington Railway Station

The two pics of the steam train are one and the same, mirror images. Look at the time on the clock and the loco no. on the front. The middle pic is the back to front one, the pic on the right is the original.

Re: Accrington Railway Station

Yes, you're right. If you look on the lefthand side of the middle picture, you can see "Accrington" the wrong way round on the station sign. However, the "correct" picture on the righthand side is confusing. The train is the wrong way round; it should be facing the other way towards Burnley.

Re: Accrington Railway Station

Here is one of Baxenden station I came across somewhere, hope I haven't 'half inched' it copyright or something. There is also one of the Shoe Mill signal box which looks to be very early 1900's.

Re: Accrington Railway Station

Nice memories, cheers for that TBS. I remember leaving Accrington Station under Steam for Blackpool on a number of occasions in the late 60s.

Re: Accrington Railway Station

Likewise TBS. Very memory provoking pics. My grannies sister, Ethel, used to be the cleaner at Accy station. I don,t know precisely what she cleaned(maybe the waiting rooms or summat) but as a cheeky young lad I would constantly tell her she had missed a few bits. Stations all being dirty and grimy of course from the smoke and steam. Lovely smell though.
