Accrington's History

New one for the history buffs.
Found this whilst browsing old newspapers.
Oxford Journal
Sept 10th 1808
Bankrupts.
James Entwistle, of Dunnyshop Factory, New Accrington, Lancashire. Cotton and Weft Spinner.
Sept 1808 at White Horse Clitheroe.

New one on me. Dunnyshop Factory.

News to me, theres a Dunnyshop up fern gore though, maybe around that site long before the council houses were built?

Yes its the same Dunnyshop, but factory
beats me, at that time even Broad Oak Factory was still a small concern.

Just an observation--put a comma after Dunnyshop might indicate that he lived there but factory was in Accrington.

What I wrote is exactly how it was written in the newspaper article, and I put all the twiddly bits in the same places

Jonas Broadley, 1698-1770, lived at Dunnyshop for much of his life and he was a weaver, but I never heard of a factory there before. I wonder if the Entwistle FHS would know? Marie Ball
