The thing that crossed my mind was the theory that Maximillian Parker (born in Burnley, lived in Accy, father of Butch Cassidy) was a distant cousin of Charles Dickens and according to some was the model for Oliver Twist. It's pretty far fetched, I know because Dickens wrote Twist in the 1830's (OCS in the early 1840's) and it is unlikely that he met Parker until his visit to Preston (where Parker then lived, prior to emigrating to the USA) in the mid 1850's.

Still, you never know - maybe Oliver Twist was really an Accy lad.

If so, who was Fagin? Probably an ancestor of Jaysay.

The propellor may not have been made locally.
James Lynch & Sons Transport Ltd. Sanbach, Cheshire- still operating.
Was the propellor for the Birkenhead shipyards? If so, perhaps not an Accrington photo

Thread wander alert!

Sorry.

Whilst looking for something else, found this, about the East Lancashire Aeroplane Co., in which Accrington gets a mention.

I did some research on this family for a friend, about 5 years ago.

I have not previously heard of any connection between Max Parker & Charles Dickens.I will take some convincing as to the truth of it. Where is it reported, and when?

Some confusion on my part; here's a link that might keep you happy:

Butch Cassidy's Preston Connection (image 2 of 2) | Flickr - Photo Sharing!

I was thinking of Butch's dad, not his grandad.

Oh..and as an after, thought this is from the Torygraph about three weeks ago:

From the Telegraph, three photographs featuring a Ford van, given to the town in the Second World War.

Ford food vans suited Accrington folk to a T after air raids (From Lancashire Telegraph)

Don't know when it ever got used, although sirens went off many times, we never had any air raids on Accy, never even used the air raid shelter either, which they built in Brigg's Yard, just used it to store bonfire wood.
As food was rationed at the time, where would they have got the food from, where would they have stored it, in the event it was ever needed.
