Was that turned down then ? The recommendation by the Planning Department was to approve this application.
Seems was adjacent to a garden in honour of Alan Benson's memory and his widow objected on the grounds that it would "detract from the peaceful ambience of the garden" Not knocking his widow's objection at all .. just wondered if the council saw it this way. LCC Highways had no objection.

The garden was neglected .. could do with a make over to be honest.

Re: Alan Benson Memorial Garden... ftao Atarah.
I wasn't at the planning committee, but just having a look at the application I'm slightly surprised there wasn't more objections. As you say Kate the highways authority seemed happy enough. Also it was recommended for approval. Id be surprised if the applicant doesn't appeal. I'm not saying that I support the application, or I'm against it. Just looking at it purely on planning grounds.

As well you know Bernard there have to be very good reasons to turn down planning permission, it can't be done just on a whim of councillors of any colour

Re: Alan Benson Memorial Garden... ftao Atarah.
Hi Kate X, can you just explain where this garden is. If its the one just along Queens Rd West, past the shops and just before you turn up to Moorhead School, I am sure this was a garden once dedicated to someone else, in times past????? In my mind I am thinking of the name SUDALL (SUDELL ??)

Yes, Atarah ... exactly where you describe ... sorry, should have taken a longer shot.
Can't help with the previous dedication. Have never really looked at this site properly for a long time .. can only remember the toilets.

Were they ? I picture them being sort of dirty white cement type surface (sorry .. not into names of cladding). You could be correct though ....wasn't an expert on public toilets.
