You'll have a job on, Restless, as the firm went into ( wait for this ) liquidation about 1975 following the death of Mr Stocks. . They weren't bought out by Barr's. Did any other firms make Iron Brew ?

They used to sell it at the Spring Hill Disco Saturday nights way back when along with Cydrax Cider.
Did the Arc's sell it too? Maybe?

Re: Beer & Pop
I've learned that other firms in Lancashire also made it .It wasn't a Stocks' invention. It beat anything that's on the market now

Re: Beer & Pop
I think the reason Barrs have to call their drink Irn Bru is because the original Iron Brew name was patented or copyright (I'm never sure how they work) and the stuff they celebrate so much in Scotland comes well after the creation of what Bob rightly claims to be a far superior drink in Lancashire. The last time I saw any was about ten years ago and was made by Ben Shaws who I assumed had bought the recipe from Stocks when they closed. I've just looked on their website and they no longer appear to make it.

I am in touch with a bloke whose pop was the pop man. Send me a personal message with your name and those of your parents, plus an email address. I will then contact Mr Stocks for you in the hope of setting up a ' meeting''

Re: Beer & Pop
A pal of mine collects 'local pop botles. I ould like to ind out more about o them - where were they baedm and when were they trading.
a) S Whittaker of Altham. His trade mark is difficult to decipher
b) H A Hurst of Oswaldtwistssle. hIs trade mark was the latters H A H
c) R Wylieof Clayton le Moors whoe trade mark was the lettersRW inside a lozenge
d) J Smith ofAccrington whoe trade mark was a set of cricket stumps. THis is a Codd bottle, ie it has a marble in the neck. This should make it easy to 'date'
