Broad Oak Hostel

A friend is asking for information on Boad Oak Hostel, in which a family member died in 1964. I think it was in Broad Oak Rd, or was it in Broad Oak terrace in Sandy Lane? Who owned it ? How did it operate ?I understand that it no longer operates. How long was it in business ?

There's no rush is there? Especially for a man that waits 8 years to read a 'new' thread?

Re: Broad Oak Hostel

I knew the area very well, but must admit can't remember any Hostel in either Sandy Lane, nor Broad Oak Rd. As far as I know there wasn't a Broad Oak Terrace, might be wrong, but pretty sure about it.
Cheers

Re: Broad Oak Hostel

Adrian Shurmer's Guide gives Broad Oak Terrace. I confess to being disappointed over not yet getting an answer over this hostel.

Re: Broad Oak Hostel

Hi Bob,
Just googled up the following article, please note the key word being "Care Home"!

Here is the internet address:
https://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.u...shire-mansion/

Quote:
"When this impressive-looking building was photographed in 1952, it was the home of Broad Oak Nursery School in Accrington.

It had been originally been built in 1900 by George McAlpine as a private residence. In later years it would also be used as a care home and more recently by Heathlands Private School." End of quote.

I would have copied the photo into this web, but as always having trouble copying into the website, for me much too complicated!
Cheers
