HISTORY: Cannon Street Baptist Church is a wonderful Grade II listed building which dates back to 1874.
The Church opened in March 1874 at a cost of £12,000.The money for the construction came from collections and fund raising events.
When it closed in 2006 it merged with Christchurch, off Manchester Road.
The inside of church now (2014) is sadly dilapidated.
DESCRIPTION: Rock-faced sandstone with ashlar dressings, slate roof.
Aisled nave with transepts, 3-sided apse, south-east tower with spire.
Early English style; some windows lancets, others 2-centered with tracery,
quatrefoils etc. Entrance in south gable to road has gableted doorway
with molded arch of 3 orders including marble shafts with foliated
sandstone capitals.
Lord only knows .
I heard there was plans to turn it into apartments, but I think it's had a lot of legal/council issues. To be honest (like a lot of these old/listed buildings) anything would be better than leaving them to be burnt down/demolished

I thought it was being turning into apartments as well. I am led to believe that the Council building on Cannon Street has been bought and is being turned into apartments. Someone on here might know more about both buildings
