I've only just started to try and find out who Alfred Hitchon was. This thread is brilliant. I had no idea he was such a prolific person around Accrington.
I don't know if anyone can help on this..but he built a spa hotel in Grindleton, near Clitheroe around 100 years ago that closed for business in the early 20's. The building is now being demolished. I don't suppose anyone has anymore info on the 'Ribblesdale Hydro'? Nothing at all is really known about it. The site is now a local school. They and indeed the council had no idea who built the original building. All I unearthed was a very short press cutting stating about the future plans for an 'hydro' in the area. |

My great grandfather designed the Globe car and manufactured them in Accy at Moscow Works, Church, Nr. Accrington. A copy of my papers relating to this business was deposited with Accrington Library a few years ago.

The Hitchon Gear & Automobile Co. Ltd was at Charter Street, Accrington tel No.122

Many thanks for that John. I had no idea when I started looking into Alfred Hitchon the many projects he had been involved in. I don't suppose you know anything about this one?
