Intriguing? I'm trying to figure out exactly where you mean. Bottom of Albert St to the right or to the left? To the right would belong to the church? If you want the definitive answer though, you'll probably need to go to the land registry and pay £8. (search online)

Re: Church St Clayton,Who nicked the houses?
Intriguing....thats the one, haha. As your walking down Church St,from Barnes Square, past the old england, next block of houses and its on the end.If you look at the top of the last house theres a few stones sticking out, thats why I thought there must have been more houses.Might just knock on a few doors and ask!

Searching my brain, Jendaw, I THINK I remember there being houses there and being pulled down, but perhaps I am dreaming... I have been here since 1964. Yes, can look through Electoral Registers too at the library and the 1950 map on Mario (sorry, haven't time just now to do it).
Like Gobbiner says though, will cost you to find out from the Land Registry who owns that land.

Re: Church St Clayton,Who nicked the houses?
The Castle was 2 houses/flats last year. I said flats but instead of one on top of the other it is two dwellings side by side. Unless it is now one big house, of course.
Knocking on doors might work, Jendaw. Are you thinking of moving a caravan on or something

Hahaha.
Yes, think it is two houses into one ... will ask next time I see him. His wife's grandma used to be the landlady there.

Forgot to say, try Winckley Road too .. there may have been a door on there, being the end of the block.

Re: Church St Clayton,Who nicked the houses?
Re the houses.....I got talking to an elderly gentleman this week who used to live on Albert St.He remembers a greenhouse being on the grassy area and remembers climbing up the stuck out stones to get balls of the roof!
He said they were going to build a few more houses, hence the pertruding stones, but never got round to it.My minds at rest
