Cinema in Church

As an old lad of 77 who was born in Church, I have been trying to remember if there was ever a Cinema in Church? I can very vaguely remember the Queens Hall on Blackburn Road, but was that ever a Cinema and was it in Church or Accrington/ Can anyone help?

Re: Cinema in Church

I think it started off as a cinema, but when I first went there in the early 60s it was a cabaret club. It later became a bingo club and at present is a snooker club.

Yes it was a cinema in the early fifties and it was called the Queens.

Re: Cinema in Church

The Queen's Hall Picture Palace was at No 1, Blackburn rd, the first building over the boundary. It became the Tudor cinema in the late 50s, then a bingo hall. There were no other pictures places until either Ossie, Clayton or Accy

It is on the Church side of the border if the road sign 'Welcome to Accrington' is positioned right. That sign is between the club and the Oak Tree Inn

Re: Cinema in Church

I was born and fetched up near there.
The building that once was Shopfitter's office was originally the Liberal Club.
The Palace was our regular Saturday evening venue - 1st house - 4 seats on middle of front row balcony - booked every week.
There are houses on the site now.
