I have fond memories of Saturday mornings spent scatting at my ankles with a gob full of Sarsaparilla watching Roy Rodgers and Flash Gordon and Bambi’s mother being murdered in cold blood. Much like what’s happening to this fine building. Can anyone tell me if there are any plans for the future of the Empire Picture Palace?
Do you have any memories or period photographs covering the years of its life? I love to see any photographs of what was across the road? I seem to remember there being a garage or yard there. Any thought of what should happen to the Palace now or even what it’s used for today?

i remember the princess picture house next door
it burnt down
cant remember how long ago
used to sit watching the movies sucking on
iced mambos
Where is that ? Is it somewhere off Blackburn rd? Near Oscar bears and Glynweb ? It looks familiar but I can't place it.....
Down the street beside the Railway pub. After it was a cinema it was a bingo club which later moved to the old co-op building next to Glynn Webb (now something else!) and is still named Empire Bingo.
It is difficult keeping up with change of use of building, especially for the likes of me who avoids 'shopping'. I dont know what use that building is being put to now if any.
The Observer offices were on the opposite side of the road, probably opposite the Princess which was next door to the Empire. Have some great memories of times on the back row of both picture places.

LOL .. me too osssy kid. The Princess was actualy built as a theatre originally and had a wonderful stage, whereas the Empire purely as a picture palace.
The building now has bedsits in, just like every other old building that should be used as our heritage. Has anybody looked at Accy Con lately? It is in a terrible state of repair, these old buildings should be taken care of. They can't demolish it as it is a listed building.
