Field House Farm

Hi.
Does anyone have any information on Field House Farm in Accrington?
The reason for my interest is that the first occupants of my House (Queen Elizabeth Crescent) were an Arthur & Ruby Hack of Field House Farm, Sandy Lane, Accrington.
I've found a "Field House", just off Sandy Lane, on a 1909 map so I'm guessing that must be it. It's not there anymore therefore it must have been demolished sometime after 1959 when QEC was built.

Hello, I am led to believe that "Field House" was better known locally as "Leemings Farm" (there ARE photos of this in Accrington library).
Not sure if I am right on this but, have a feeling the old "pathway entrance" just a bit higher up than where Owl Hall is, is something to do with the old "Leemings Path".

For a start off Field House Farm was nowhere near Queen Elizabeth Crescent, Ascot Way is practically next door to where it stood.
Look at your old map, go up Sandy Lane, past Broad Oak Fold (on your left) for a further 300 yrds, turn left into Leemings Pad, 150 yards further and there was a steel gate, then you came to Field House Farm on your right.
Use to play up there sometimes in the 30's, two lads about same age as me lived there, can't remember their names, but it will come back.
(never been able to find out who or what Leeming was)

Thanks for the quick response Atarah and Retlaw. I Might not have phrased my question all that well - I didn't mean that I thought QEC was built on the site of Field House, just that Mr & Mrs Hack moved from there to QEC in 1959. Was it demolished to make way for the new estate? Although I've just looked at google maps and it looks as though the field where it stood is still a field, behind Wensley Drive and Leyburn Close.

If you look at the Street Atlas of Lancashire, the
farm was about where the L in Leyburn Close is.
I think the field now belongs to Spire Farm or as it is also known, New High Riley.

I seem to remember that if you went up Arden Hall Lane you could turn off just before Owl Hall to go over Leemings Pad as we called it. The path was quite wide, possibly a bridle way. I remember the high wall of Owl Hall which we had a nosy over, and no, we didn't steal the crab apples!

If you continued along the path it took you along the bottom of a large field. Near the end of the path there was a barn or building on your left and a large gate accross the path which eventually joined the top of Sandy Lane. A well known courting spot!
