George Bloomer of Midland Street, Accrington

Described in the 1881 census as a "Grease Manufacturer". Someone on Curious Fox Genealogical website wonders if anyone knows where he carried on business.

There's some thing keeps tickling my mind, that there was a Tallow Manufacturer in Back Adelaide St, Accy, where they built Lightbowns Toffee Works. Can't remember where Its come from, but its bin niggling me. Ask Atarah she might remember.

The answer might be found in the 1881 Barrett's (Blackburn) Directory which is divided up under trades. It should show where his premises were, and give his home address.

Re: George Bloomer of Midland Street, Accrington

Hi Balbus, havent a clue what a "Grease Manufacturer" would do, but something "tickling my mind" too about the surname BLOOMER but I have "taxi owner" in my mind. I am sure I once read somewhere that a Mr Bloomer had one of the first taxi companies in Accrington, think it was on Abbey Street, where Clive now has his men's hairdressers. Dont know if the person on Curious Fox would be interested?
