The Landlord in the sixties was Ted Green, he had a gorgeous daughter, was a regular there in those days, the back room was called the Blue Room went to quite a few parties in there in that era, never liked it when it changed to the Bees Knees, much prefered the Astronaut on Union Street

Ian definitely had it from '68 onwards when I started going in. As Cashy says, never barred anyone...not even Cashy! There was also an elderly barmaid called Ethel who used to shout "last orders!" in a voice that could shatter glass.

This is the comprehensive and definitive history of the 'Bees Knees', as such:

1973 opens as a Sh**hole.
1973-2008 stays a Sh**hole
2008 shuts as a Sh**hole.

Please note: the dates are approximate.

Don't forget the sticky carpet - could take half an hour to get down to the pool tables from the front door

Think the worst pub for sticky carpets was the one on Broadway (the old Odeon) can't remember the name, took 10 minutes to get form the door to the bar
