Originally Biscopham in the Domesday Book, the estate of the bishop. So pronounced with the -ham a distinct element. Same as Bosham on the south coast is Bos-ham not Bosh-am as it was originally Bosa's ham or village.
Also Meopham in Kent pronounced Mep-ham not Mefam. The name of the village derives from Meapaham (Meapa's village). The modern pronunciation of the name (Mep-) comes from different ways of writing and spelling.
