RE-Opened, still thats understandable being a student. seem to remember a landlord nortype 60s i reckon, little guy called sam, best i can do.

Sam was the landlord for years in the Nags. We use to have meetings in the Nags in the 1980's, I'm sure Sam was there then

Probably so Bernard, i can only go late 60s/early 70s....was barred after that.

must have changed brewerys then was "Thwaites" in 60s.

Think your right Bernard, not sure but I think Sam died whilst still in the Nags, know his wife lived in George Street in Ossy when she left the pub

Without being able to do any research in directories to give me information on when it was built, I suspect that it was purpose-built as a pub for Thwaites', who tried to get a monopoloy in the town centre. Withjin yards theu owned the raailway Hotel and, at the other end of their own block, the Thwaites Arms, which was knocked down c 1937 to make way for Broadway. Breweries had considerable pull with councils - hence Dutton Street and Thwaites Rd. I think Holme St is connected to Dutt6ons, but cannot remember why.
