New Jerusalem Church Abbey St.

This may be a very elementary question but how do I locate specific photos on the site? I'm looking for the old New Jerusalem Church Abbey St. I attended the Sunday School on Hargreaves St. in the forties and fifties and I was married in the church.

I'd also like to see a photo of the Grammar School on Blackburn Rd. I looked in the Photo section but didn't see anything.

Thank you for any help.

Joan

Re: New Jerusalem Church Abbey St.

There may not be any but try typing New Jerusalem or Grammar School in the search box at the top of the page.

If you want photos of the church there is one of the inside and one of the outside in 1899 at

I also against my will, had to attend during the 1930's to mid 1940's.
The church was built at a cost of 4000 quid 1848/49, on the site of an earlier church/school dated circa 1800.
Your New Jerusalem church was demolished in 1968, also in the same time period 3 other church's were demolished, Abbey St Wesleyans, Oak St Congies and the Church at the botton of Union St, all their war memorials have vanished.
The library should have photos

New Jerusalem wasn't demolished till the new road was built in the eighties.

GENUKI: Birtwistle St New Jerusalem, Accrington, Lancashire genealogy

The library's no good to Joan, she lives in Canada.

Chipping in again are we.
So what, they have a scanner & have done the same for other people.

As for the church Wrong, the church was demolished before the plans for the new road had been thought of, that church was suffering from dry rot, I lived in Hargreaves St beind the church.
I was also there with a video camera, when they were preparing the site for the petrol station, when they found human bones, and panic set in, police were called & the teapots from the council, they then erected a fence to stop prying eyes.
I have a copper name plate from one of the graves.

Then stick to things you actually know about, from experience, not from cutting and pasting from Goggle [sic] there are enough errors on internet sites, you should know better, and I don't need history lessons about the streets I grew up in from you. If your mouth is any thing like your fingers on a keyboard, then god help your husband.
Now go and start another weeping and wailing sympathy thread.

Re: New Jerusalem Church Abbey St.

I'd just like to apologise to Joan for hijacking her thread by what was meant to be an attempt to help her find what she was looking for.

That's the end of trying to make a useful contribution - sorry Joan.

Re: New Jerusalem Church Abbey St.

Joan. I wonder why you want a photo of the Grammar School. I am membership secretary for the Old Boys. Send me a PM if I can help - but don't ask me to send a photo, as that is beyond my skills

It does say in the article

A new smaller modern building was erected in Hargreaves St on the site of the old Sunday School and was opened in September 1985 and remains in use.

It also has a facility on the page for anyone to correct the information if they think it is wrong.

I must say looking on Streetview although the church is on Hargreaves Street it is on the corner with Birtwistle Street as well.

I do remember the old buildings as I went to school there in the fifties when Central Prep School was based there.
