Re: Oct Quiz 1
There is a building at the top of Black Abbey Street where a rounded bit is facing onto Black Abbey, although the building I suppose is Abbey Street. Was/is a public house .. can picture it ... but can't remember the name of the pub ?
Was it the place where the IT place used to be .. run by Brian Cucknell ?

That rounded ended building and some on Abbey St, was the Red Lion Pub owned by Jacob Lang, he died not long after it was built and his son Jacob ran it.
There were also buildings round the back for stableing when it was a coaching inn.
Just as a matter of interest Atarah asked me where the other Red Lion was, that was also owned by Jacob Lang.
Do you know? its just a little bit before your time circa 1810. so Goggling is out.

Re: Oct Quiz 1
Did take around that area today and failed miserably ... was in car though so not so easy. Need to be on foot really.
Is there not a rounded front on a shop on Abbey Street, on the same block as Gene's dress shop ? Probably dreamt it. LOL.
Re. Red Lion Retlaw .. do you mean another one in Accrington ? Loads of Red Lion's in other districts.

The RED LION on Abbey St on the Left hand corner as you look down black Abbey St. When it closed as a pub a tyre firm had it for some time. Then an electronics firm took over. P.V. Tubes
The shop next door use to be a shoe shop, you went down some steps from Abbey St.

Re: Oct Quiz 1
Erm ... erm . but you asked where the other Red Lion pub was ? Already established about the one on Abbey Street...
I was talking about another Georgian Bay as we don't appear to have got the correct answer yet... thought on the next block but one ... top of Oak Street turn left (North .. tee hee) ... there may be a shop there with one of these ?

Can we keep each thread to one question as this is getting very confusing, thank you.

Blame that Katex, she keeps wandering all over the place. Before the Red Lion Hotel was built on Abbey St, by Jacob Lang, there was another Red Lion pub owned by Jacob Lang.
Where was it that is the question
Katy concentrate your mind on 1800 not 2000.
These are supposed to be local history questions.
