Only in England.......

Council 'bonkers' for conkers alert - UK News - MSN News UK

A sensible move by the Council, or Health and Safety gone mad?

"A couple of people came into our parks office after one had been hit by falling conkers and asked if we could warn people at this time of year,"

What next? A warning not to go out in hail storms?

Re: Only in England.......

It's a pity a few silly people bring discredit on Health and Safety issues .

There is the myth of the conkers-with-goggles story .
A head teacher in Carlisle was weary on spending hours on health and safety issues . He said that it was largely due to the Thatcher and Major administrations that the health and safety culture was brought to bear in schools .

In Oct 2004 he tongue-in-cheek alerted the media to his conkers-with-goggles hoax , never dreaming that it would eventually go global .

Even Mr Cameron fell for it in Dec last year when he quoted the "incident" in a speech .

That's as maybe JCB, but there are enough clowns & lazy sacks who will quote & use them to their ends, or to get out of doing something they don't want to do, I know I've met them !

Re: Only in England.......

I think it was perhaps Norwich cut down all the Horse Chestnuts tress some years ago because of the danger.
Seem to remember that H & S hit the RAF in '78 - first day of no-wax polish on the lino the tea ladfy slipped on the new liquid polish and broke her arm??????/

Re: Only in England.......

You only have to look at some of the No Win No Pay adverts that appear on the TV, the one that really gets up my nose is the guy who says I was told to install an alarm system and was given the wrong ladder for the job. I find myself shouting at the telly, then why did you use it you plank, sometimes just sometimes people have to look after their own well being, especially at work and not use the blame culture all the time
