peel park cottage?

Now then, I live on stanley street nearly opposite where parkinsons removals used to be. The house in question also goes round the corner to clarenden street but its 2 seperate houses now. I was told the house used to house the servants for either Owl hall or Plantation house many moons ago , can anyone tell me the history of the house ?
Thanks.

Re: peel park cottage?

Now then! I love these local questions. My granny;s family LIVED there, honest and yes .. she told me of servants bells in the house, but .. they were to do with her ancestors who had the house built. THE PILKINGTONS! A BROTHER AND SISTER, who, had an almost identical house built at Worsthorne, still there to this day, across from the pub there. ... cant think of its name this minute.
Honest, this is the truth, whole truth and nothing but the truth! The house was at some point split into two. And yep, the Parkinsons (as in Parkinsons Removals) did have the half of the property which was in Stanley Street. I too know Jimmy Parky!

Re: peel park cottage?

The Pilkingtons is a name I've not heard , this makes it interesting! I'll have a look then around worsthorne and see what comes up. It is Cambridge st and not Clarenden as I wrote , still get em mixed up after all these years living here.

Re: peel park cottage?

Hi, just having a "family history half hour". Am looking at some old family documents, the house was originally known as Peel Park Villa. The brother and sister who owned the property were George and Ann Pilkington.

Re: peel park cottage?

I've only just noticed the peel park cottage namestone on Cambridge st , the people who run the butty shop opposite my house also lived in the house at some point so I will see if they can shed some light as well. What about plantation house , would the foundations still be there I wonder.I dont know why I've taken an interest in my area.
