Prisoners of War in Huncoat

I've searched for past threads/postings about a WW2 PoW camp in Bolton Ave, Huncoat. Found nothing. Am I right in thinking that there was one? What do you know about it and the inmates?

Re: Prisoners of War in Huncoat

I have never heard anything about it. My dad was from Huncoat and he never mentioned it. I know there was one somewhere in Ossy.

Re: Prisoners of War in Huncoat

Roy confirms that this estate of small chalet bungalows , known as 'Sawdust City' because the walls were insulated with sawdust, was built in 1939 . The first occupants were mostly workers from the Bristol Aircraft factory at Clayton (later English Electric) and later foreign, mostly Italian) coal miners. It was never a PoW camp.
