Before my grandad bought our shop in 1946, it was owned by a baker called Sam Boots, who my grandad worked for, and before the First World War it was a chip shop, so maybe the pub would have been there then.

was that not the Commercial in ossy? it is on the coner of the same name and i can recall having to take meat there when i was working in butchers and when i 1st started on a&e had a call there but thats 10years ago now lol

I really don't think the smoking ban has helped. That was the reason why the landlord of the White Bull in New Lane, gave for getting out.

funny story,was sat on the pub doorstep in 60s one sunday evening about 6-45 waiting for opening time with me mate, twas a winters evening bloody freezing,lol and the landlady tipped a bucket of cold water on us from the upstairs window that was over the door. think the fact i was goin out with her daughter had a bearing on that one.
