Where the eck did you get that from.
Its nowt to do with the Crown.
I asked what was the name of the Railway Pub, before the railways were completed in Acc in 1847.

Re: Puzzle for kaytex
I have NEVER seen the name printed ANYWHERE of the original name for the Railway Pub Retlaw, and I have looked through some local history books, believe you me!
If you come up with a reasonable explanation, I will personally come to your house with a huge bouquet of flowers, because you will have gone up in my estimations!!!!!!!!

I know .. that is what I was answering ..
Well, there is an old advert for The Crown Hotel, Blackburn Road, Accrington and an invoice dated 1807 headed 'The Crown Hotel Livery Stables' in B.D's book, I came to the conclusion that this may be it. Not the Crown on Whalley Road obviously. As old pictures of the Railway Hotel had a board outside advertising livery stables ... I put 2 and 2 together and probably came up with 5 ?
So what was it called ..please tell me.. grovel. Or do you not know yourself...

You will never get it, without indexing the 1841, 1851 census and merging them to see who was still occupying the same premises.
Its no good asking your sister witch Atarah I've never told her or anyone else.
Just one of those not a lot of people know that gems.

There is supposed to be a similar picture some where that was painted from the bedroom of that house, but I've never seen it, but I'm going to make enquiries.

Sorry to resurrect this again.
Amazingly .. a mutual friend of my brother and I lived in Eaton Bank in one of the taller buildings, and the resident previously was an artist ! All fits.
He also lived around the corner from you Atarah ... LOL.
All involved with the local history society, so could track him down with more questions maybe, deeds etc.

Gonna' try this again ...
I have a friend who lived in what could be the above house in Eaton Bank. The previous owner was an artist and may have painted the picture you seek.
My friend, coincidentally, lived very close, before moving to Eaton Bank, to Atarah. (and yerself by the sound of it)
Does that make any more sense Retalw ?? Earth to Retlaw.
