Rolls of honour.
I've been considering for some time a proper R-O-Honour for Greater Accrington, the idea started some 15 years ago when I went looking for Haslingden's R-O-H.
Bill Turner need info for one of his projects, I eventualy found them in what had been town hall offices in Regent St, persuaded one of the local officials to get the keys and at least let me photograph them, when I saw them I pestered them to have them removed for safe keeping, I think they are now in Haslingden Library. There are nearly 300 names on them, and they are big at least 10 ft tall.
So I started creating files just for a Greater Accrington R-O-H, All the men & women who it can be proven that they signed attestation papers, and served or died in WW1.
So far I have done A's, B's, C's, & D's, that is the first letter of their surnames, don't think the project will go any further, it will be too big. Any one like to guess how many names in each group so far. Greater Accrington in WW1 days is now Hyndburn.
