yes, retlaw is right, Lydia Street runs at right angles(roughly) to Marsden Street.

I know this, as it is close to where I lived for the first 19 years of my life (Riley's Hill).

My eldest was born there in 68 remember it was a Sunday afternoon when she was born at 1-55pm I arrived 5 minutes later (they didn't let fathers anywhere near in those days) when I went in the delivery room I immediately got a bollocking because I hadn't brought a Mothers Day card, twas Mothers Day, things just seemed to go downhill from then

Christ Church end of Lemonius Street could be described as facing the entrance of Rough Lee.

Oh aye, and I was born there in '62. My mum always tells me a tale about her and three other new mums smoking 20 a day in the ward, all with newborns a the end of the bed and the windows all closed - how times have changed!

I was born there,(year....I'm not telling!) and my daughter was born there....in March 1968......and you were right John...they used to shoo the expectant father away off home. Mind you, I was pretty glad about that, himself was not suitable for labour room viewing....very squeamish!

And I'm guessing circa 1940's.

Re: Roughlee Nursing Home Accrington

In Dec 2008 a picture of Rough Lee Nursing Home was shown, so here it is again, for the newer members. You went up Manchester Road, turned right onto Christ Church Street (where the Park Pub is) - then left onto Rough Lee Road, and straight up to the top, through some stone pillars. A rather nice looking building to "start your life".
