Still looking for Old Photos...

I’m still looking for Photographs of Church Kirk School and turn of the century Pitt Street, William Street and a place called Fair Holmes Cottage that was situated on the New Rishton side of the canal. In fact any photos that are pre 1970 would be fantastic……

Searching for Accrington Photographs?

I have a library of some thousands of negatives dating back
to 1950’s which I able to supply copies from, for former
customers, and perhaps relatives. Weddings, studio sittings and of course Pictures taken for the Accrington Observer over the period 1949 to 1980.

If you are searching for older photographs, feel free to contact me with the details using the form on the contact page of this website.

Re: Still looking for Old Photos...

I have no idea why I didn’t think of that myself! That great Kipax thanks. I’ll drop him a line via his site and see what’s available when I get over at the weekend.

Notwithstanding this excellent link I would be still interested in seeing any old photos people may wish to share.

I’d also love to hear of anyone who may have school or street photographs of the Church Street/Canal street area of church during the 1940s particularly from anyone that knew and may have photos Alan and Maureen Douglas…. It’s a long shot I know.

Here's some of William Street Doug, the black and white ones were probably around '59 ish; the other two 60's. ?? That was my brother's first car .. he was proud of it.

Notice the different lamposts, used to put a rope around this when I was young .. they had these two arms that stuck out ... and swing round it .. could't do that with the later version

Can you work out which was your Grandad's House ?? x

Thanks for that mthead it’s an excellent photo. If you ever have it scanned drop me a line and I’ll happily purchase a copy. You’re a gentleman.

I know I’m never satisfied but ask Tinks to nip out and take a shot from the same spot so we can compare the scene…..

Kate, I want to have you babies. Thank you for those, there great. I know he was born and live at No 37 until shortly before the first war. I think it maybe the one with the Satellite dish but I can’t be sure. I was up there late last year and took some photographs of it but I wiped them by mistake. I’ll spend a week in July taking new ones around the town as well as following up on some family tree research. Again thank you.

I thought you'd gone through the 'change'? Have you any eggs left for Katex to fertilise??

Glad to hear you've found some great pics though.

Re: Still looking for Old Photos...

Hi Doug. Have one here that you may not have seen. Not exactly what you may want. This piccy sends tingles up my spine of memories of the Bull Bridge urinal set in the wall around the 'stink'. I used to frequent it quite often in the 40's and 50's as a kid and then a youth. Just one thing that puzzles me. I thought the pub at the bottom of Castle st. was ( I have been told it is the 'Australian') another pub with a different name. Thought the Australian was further up Weir st. towards Kenyon st. Never mind

Anyway back to the thread ... your grandad's house would have been the one next to the one further up than the one with the satellite dish. Get it ?? .. below the drainpipe, window on the right of the door.

They confused me no end when they moved the 'non-climbable' lamposts further down the street. One used to be outside my oldest friend's house and went to the wrong door once.
