The Joy of Railings

Railings are such delightful and useful things. Here is a set in a field, are they to keep something out or are they to keep something in?

If you can tell me where they are and what purpose they serve, you can win one of my lovely coconuts. Isn't that nice of me!

Re: The Joy of Railings

At a guess I would say it's one of two things:

A. A public Memorial (sold off by HBC) or;

B. A cap stone to an underground system i.e. - Air Raid Shelter or Calvert type thingy

The railings are their to keep the little ones out.

Re: The Joy of Railings

******, I'll go with (B) - But should we wait and see if anyone comes up with something better?

B. A cap stone to an underground system i.e. - Air Raid Shelter or Calvert type thingy

Re: The Joy of Railings

Hooray! Atarah wins the coconut! it is the family vault of the The Trappes -Lomax Family. It was originally built inside the Chapel of St.Mary's, Burnley Road, Clayton. The Chapel was demolished in 1951(?) So the vault now stands alone.

Re: The Joy of Railings

CADBURY'S CREAM EGG ? CADBURY'S CREAM EGG????? i am afraid I cannot comply with this request, for two reasons, Firstly because one never knows where such extravagances may end, and secondly, because I cannot guarantee that should I despatch such a confectionary delight, my assistant, the lovely Rubella, might well be tempted and I am sure that you would not wish encounter the Lovely Rubella after a night on the chocolate! Perish the thought.
