I met Adrian in 1988/89, he told me about an idea he had for a tour bus around Hyndburn with a guide on board with microphone, pointing out all the interesting points around the area..he also gave me a copy of his newly published red cover 'Official Guide to Hyndburn' ..I still have it and as I don't live in Hyndburn, it is in mint condition..I will always keep it....Adrian was a real gentleman.

There was a lovely memorial service for Adrian on Tuesday at Sparth House, CLM.

A true gentleman! The world could do with more like him.

Keep hold of this - invaluable. No Accrington house should be without one.

Had to see what everyone was on about - just bought one, £2.50 plus postage on ebay. The red cover 1989 edition, very good condition. What a lot of work must have gone into that publication.

Like the Fire Brigade, the police also kept an index of streets in their patch. In the Fire brigade ours was a card index system, which not only listed all the streets, backs, alleys, ginnals, courts & yards,
all the hydrants, ours had all the farms and small holdings as well, when Accrington became the Div HQ, we also added all the other stations in our patch to the card index, one of my jobs was to keep the index up to date. I made it into a book one for every machine in the division. I still have the original draft copy.
Now it has gone computerised, one day when I called in the Fire Station I was given a demo of the new system, so I challenged it and won 7/10, their new system was based on post codes, not every building especially outlying ones have a post code, the post office don't deliver, you collect your own.

Adrian was crafty when he made his street guide, I asked him about some of the streets & places that didn't exist, he said it was to catch the plagarists, which he did on more than one occassion.

Hey Walter I've just found out we have a Mole St in Ossy ya ever hear of that one before I hadn't, even though it was within 300 yards from where I was fetched up

No I know, somebody told me about it the other week and I hadn't a clue where it was, until they told me, it must be a revived name from years ago, but somebody has refurbished some old store rooms and made them into cottages so they now need a postal address, its down some steps at the end of spring street, leading to the Straights, played round there when I was a kid

There used to be a Mole street in Accy, leading off Whalley road between Castle street and Kenyon street, according to the 1910 OS map.

Never heard of that but not surprised seein as tha wur fotched up theer. Pity tha wurned born in Accy we used to ave a Sink St, thad wud a bin an ideal place fur thee.

Just had a look on Streetview, that's the sign for Kenyon street. Think Mole st disappeared when they knocked down the Methodist church, or before. I was born and raised round there, don't ever remember the name being mentioned.

Not interested in what street view shows now, both John Kelly & I used to use Mole St, as a trick question for newcomers to the Fire Station, when we were having street quizes, we used to have a ten min session on street names during lecture time, we both knew the street had gone, but the sign was still there, Mole St was facing end on to the 4th House on Britcliffe Row.
There are a lot of names not shown on the 1909 street map, several fire calls we had from the older generations were still using names for their streets, even though they had been changed & were no longer on street guides, we had to know those as well.
Are you challenging my knowledge of the streets in Hyndburn, because if you are, your gonna lose big time.
