About the volunteer opportunity
Volunteer duties would include: offering support, friendship and practical help. Visiting families in their own homes. Be someone to talk to, a shoulder to cry on, or perhaps someone to play with the children to give the parents a rest, or to support the family to keep appointments or find out what else is available locally.
About Home Start Rossendale Burnley and Hyndburn
Home-Start helps families with young children deal with whatever life throws at them. We support parents as they learn to cope, improve their confidence and build better lives for their children. The benefits of our support include improved health and well being and better family relationships.
What are they looking for?
Commitment - 2 hours per week. After completing the preparation course we would like a volunteer to commit to at least 12 months service if possible.
Training - The Volunteer Preparation Course is spread over 10 weeks x 4 hourly sessions.
Must be a parent or have parenting experience, have a positive attitude to working with people of any gender, family status or sexual identity or who are from any ethnic origin, culture or religion, or who may have a disability, be reliable, understand the need for support, an ability to listen, be clear about confidentiality but able to decide when disclosure of a confidence is essential to the well being of a child
Practical Considerations
Be prepared to keep records as requested by the scheme. Have time and enthusiasm for Home-Start.
All potential volunteers must live in Rossendale, Burnley or Hyndburn.
Age requirement - Over 18
Volunteers must be able to travel independently, volunteering is in the family home and therefore not always accessible for certain disabilities.
