Re: Great Harwood lad's documentary tonight.

Rhonda told me to text you about the program over the weekend after I saw the Observer article. I told her there was no need as you read the paper cover to cover

Re: Great Harwood lad's documentary tonight.

It was totally weird watching this programme.

The same windswept carpark at Queens Park.

The same charmless specialist.

The same family confrences.

The same shock when you first attend a meeting peopled with other Parkinson's patients, all of whom seem to be much older than yourself.

The same denial.

Interesting, and thanks for making it, even though I now know I've been usurped as Dr. Tidswell's youngest Parkinson's patient.

Lol, yeah that was him at his most chatty and charming.

I too thought his brother was a total ****** until he broke down, and told him he was being hard because he couldn't protect his little brother anymore, as he had all their lives.

Talking of brothers, I know mine watched it, and he'll now know that there is a test to see if it is a genetic strain of the disease, and if it is there is a high chance siblings will develop it too. Amazingy what you learn from your doctor when he's on the telly and not face to face. Oh well, my half yearly appointment is next week so I can ask him.....if he's not signing autographs.

Just a point I noticed from the programme. The windowless, airless room where you wait to see the neurologist, formerly called the 'geriatric clinic' but now called the movement disorder clinic after a certain someone complained, was completely empty in the programme. Normally it's packed, and there are some poor pitiful souls in there. When the docs running more than two hours late we sometimes get a cup of tea...in a cup and saucer! The clinking and clanging of a room full of people with Parkinson's drinking from china can be heard all over the hospital.

He lives in London....so I'm still his youngest patient in Lancashire.

(Think my Ma recorded it, will let you know.)

I recorded it if you are struggling Neil, had to, thought I might have nodded off during it, as a little late for me during week. Haven't seen it yet though, but will.

I'd like to borrow it too. I'm sorry I missed it.

I read Michael J. Fox's book a couple of years ago and up until then had no idea what Parkinson's even was. I wonder if it's just because people are talking about it more openly now or not but it does seem to appear as though more younger people are being diagnosed with it when it was once perceived as simply an older person's illness. This must surely be positive for people who are suffering because it will encourage medical investment.

Neil has my Mum's copy. I'll go to the trouble of trekking it all the way round to your Mum's for you when he's watched it.
