Re: The Coppice Shelter
Just to clarify the 2009 Centenary Project.
Next year is the 100 year anniversary of when the Peel family handed over the Coppice to the people of Accrington. We are going for a lottery grant to hold a celebratory event to mark this. The event will be the culmination of a three month programme of workshops, exhibitions and activities which will focus around the history and usage of the Coppice. It will also be a fitting celebration of the work that is being done.
The two groups should not be working seperately.
The Celebration group has absolutely nothing to do with any of the work that is being done up there at the moment. The only people working up there now are those involved in the REMADE scheme. Whether they are directly involved with REMADE or are part of HBC and therefore working alongside REMADE, I don't know, but surely Graham you would have the facts to hand about this as you're so involved.

Reading the Observer Gayle, looks like the Parks Department that were responsible for this decision. Just wondered if they would have to consult anyone on the council before demolition ... after all was a place that was dear to all our hearts.

Just phone the Parks Dept manager Craig Horabin on 356200. I am sure he will answer all your questions as to why and who authorised the removal of the shelter. You will then very quickly have all the facts to hand before this thread turns into another political rampage.
I look forward to reading your report later.
I suspect if you ask him nicely he will let you have a brick from the shelter to put on your mantle piece to remind you of the good times you had up there

Well I have tried to tell you about this guy, every time he has anything to say he has to mention PB irrespective of what it is about. Oh by the way Neil which post he made is none political, you said there was one

No way am I going to make this thread political Neil .. just reporting facts and wondering also who had the final decision.
Had to go out so didn't make that 'phone call .. did a quick E-mail which has been passed on to the Planning Department (so could have come from there).
Mind you, if anything like the last E-mail I sent this department ... still waiting after a couple of months for a reply ...

The idea of finding out and reporting the facts was to stop it turning into a political farce Kate. Then you could have reported real facts, not the Observers facts .

Not disagreeing with ya' at all Neil .. we do tend to trust that the media has done their research, however, personally, I don't think you can say I have not tried to find out from 'the horses mouth' so to speak.
Good advice... would give you some karma .. but ya' got too much..
Looks like may have to wait until Monday now for an answer (if any). I really don't think it would have been too much of a hassle to be honest, to send me a quick answer .. sure they are not inundated in the Planning Department with small queries from the Public.
