What is Huncoat like?
We are moving down there in a couple of weeks, just renting for 6 months until we decide to buy again, just wondering what its like? I'm a little worried I'm going to feel isolated, but with no decent property to rent around Accrington, unless you want to line the pockets of the likes of Rent-the-House with nearly £1k before you move it, Huncoat it is.
I'm just wondering what its like really. I know I'm going to miss being able to walk into town from where I am, not that I go very often anyway, but anyway just wondering really!

Re: What is Huncoat like?
I've heard about the estate, is it that bad??
The house we're moving too is just off Station Road. It doesn't look like the best, but its all I can find, and I just have to move away from this awful place I'm in now!

Re: What is Huncoat like?
Really???? Blimey, having second thoughts now. Nowhere can be as bad as this can it?
Neil I live in sunny Woodnook.
I hate saying it because people assume I'm an awful person!
Even the new landlord asked what I wanted to move down there becaue I was from around here, no "nice" people move from here! I thought that was really bad and not everyone who lives around here is bad, there are some nice people.

Re: What is Huncoat like?
I grew up in Huncoat and its not as bad as people make out (the village that is) You have the papershop/grocers chippy couple of pubs school station bus service motorway access hence the atraction to others.

My inlaws used to live in Woodnook. It is a shame that it has gone downhill like it has. It's about time the Council made the house owners responsible for the rubbish in back ally/yards at least. I am not sure what else they could do to improve the area.

Re: What is Huncoat like?
I have heard a few bad things, but I guess its as bad as anywhere else. The thing I don't understand is why doesn't the Council do something about it? ie get rid of the bad ones and encourage the good ones to move it.
When I loved in Bolton there was a council estate there basically it was split into two halves, the good and the bad. The good was well good, and the bad was pretty ropey but the Council were getting the bad ones out and then boarding the houses up. It did look a proper eyesight but once the bad ones had been ousted they were going to do them all up and get decent people in, which I thought all in all was a good idea.
Why they can't do the same right here and everywhere else is beyond me. Its just a shame for the decent people who have to live in these bad areas.

Re: What is Huncoat like?
I wonder what happens to all the bad families that councils turf out? Do they all end up in Hyndburn?
Huncoat village is fine. Some friends of ours live there.

Re: What is Huncoat like?
I don't know Huncoat so can't really comment, but I do wish you all the best with your move.
Like every neighbourhood, I'm sure there are good people as well as not so good. Now there'll be one more good one in Huncoat.
