Walking and camping:

Anyone here enjoy walking and camping (tents)?
I go to Malham quite often ‘ weather permitting’ because there are some brilliant walks around that area and I always take the tent as it’s a cheap way of staying for the weekend. Another reason I like Malham, is that it’s only an hour’s drive away, ideal for the weekend break.

As it’s that time of year again I was just wondering if anyone else did the same and if so can you recommend any other decent, cheap campsites where there are plenty of countryside walks and a pub. The Hill Inn at Ingleton was a good crack a few years ago but I believe they’ve stopped people from camping there these days as it’s become a restaurant and it’s no longer a boozer as such.

Re: Walking and camping:

well I love camping...we have been to loads of sites but we always go to winksley in yorkshire quite alot - theres a lovely campsite there called woodhouse farm...about 6 miles from ripon....and it has its own shop & restaraunt and pub so campers and caravaners are only allowed !!..and they also allow dogs in the pub so they are not left in the tents/caravan..we are going end of may for the long weekend...and its less than an hour to get there...this is cracking stuff as I can talk camping (tents) to a fellow camper...
pm me if you want info & prices etc...

Re: Walking and camping:

I’ve got to admit, there’s nowt better than cobbing your tent and a few bits and pieces into your car ‘not for getting mi walking boots’ and soding off for the weekend.
I used too/ still do have my two man ridge tent but I don’t use it anymore because I upgraded to a Khyam freelander tent. I got this Khyam because I found out that women don’t like little ridge tents so I had no choice but to upgrade and having done so, it’s been the best tent I’ve ever used. I no longer us ground mats, I’ve upgraded to a pump up bed. I even sneak my pillow from the car to the tent in a black plastic bag so that no one knows I’ve gone soft.

I’ll have a search and see what I can find on woodhouse farm.

Re: Walking and camping:

we have a khyam also...but ours is a brekenridge...huuuge big thing - think it can sleep bout 8 but we wanted something that gave plenty of room so we wouldnt get cabin fever or bang elbows if it was raining outside so with only the 2 of us theres more than plenty of leg stretching space...I wont used anything less than a pump bed - we have one of those big double height beds as the rooms in the tent are big and allow it...heres my tent !

and I found the link to the place in yorkshire we go to..

http://www.woodhousewinksley.com/location.htm

forgot to say it even has a fishing lake if thats what you into..

Re: Walking and camping:

Thanks for the links, I’ll have a look through and see what’s what. Your tent looks a grand one. I bit it takes a of time to assemble it (I wont say erect because you know what will happen. hehe).
