Welcome Home, Saints!
The New Orleans' Saints returned in triumph last night to play their first home game at the newly refurbished Dome. Before a sold out crowd, they trounced the visiting Atlanta Falcons. Of course, the ESPN honchos in the press box just couldn't resist pointing out that other parts of New Orleans remain as they were following Katrina. It was clear that they were trying to make the point that "America Doesn't Care!" Can't people even enjoy a football game and a joyous homecoming without this sort of rubbish being pushed in their faces?
A little later on, I came across the following piece, written by Vedran Vuk, student of economics at Loyola University in New Orleans. As I know, from previous posts on AccyWeb, you get a great deal of misinformation over there. So, here's a further update from the Big Easy.

Steeljack, thought you'd be a 49er fan. Your're not playing both side sof the bridge now are ya?
The Raiders have had alot of disappointing seasons eh? How they looking this year? I grew up a Packer fan, then got homesick and started liking the Patriots around 1990. Now leaning more towards the ugly looking Redskins.
Joe Gibbs just doesn't seem to have the magic pixie dust anymore!
At least I hope we can agree that we both hate the LALA Lakers right?

Re: Welcome Home, Saints!
just trying to stir things up a bit , live in Raiders territory but guess the heart belongs to the Montana era Niners, now they have gone all wine and cheese like the Giants (dot. com yuppies)
Actually wish the Raiders would go back to L.A. they have cost Alameda county (Oakland area) millions of $$$$$$$$s in screwed up financial shenanigans , money that could be better spent elsewhere
But got to love the A's even though they fell at the last fence, and Cal is looking good , should make a bowl game this year .
(translation will probably be needed for UK readers) LOL

Re: Welcome Home, Saints!
Yes, I think the wnba is a joke and can only watch basketball games during the playoffs.
Don't feel too bad about the A's, I'm a Red Sox fan. Same old story except for a couple of glitches in 80 years, beating the yankees until September comes around then the bloody fall comes. Make playoffs as widcard just to get the hopes up and then their beaten by the stinkin' yankees!
It all beats being a Falcon's fan eh? (just adding to your stirring) Oh yeah, and GO VIRGINIA TECH!!!!!

Not exactly. But I have to give them credit for making such enormous progress over the last few years. They used to be a total embarrassment. But a change of ownership appeared to do wonders for them. I think the Saints were just so energized by being back on home turf that they couldn't be stopped. Can't say I follow football all that closely. Thank God I'm not a sports widow either.
