Winter Olympics

The winter olympics start tomorrow .. well saturday morning at 2am is the opening ceremony ... are you going to watch it ..

BBC Sport - Vancouver 2010 - BBC Sport's guide to the Winter Olympic Games

There is a local interest .. Kristan Bromley is originally from Cowpe in Rossendale and went to BRGS ... hes going in the skeleton bob ... the one where they go down head first on what looks like a tin tray ....

Something for Eric ..our canadian friend ...

Then, its time to strap yourselves in/hide behind the sofa as the potentially explosive men's ice hockey final begins at 1215 local time (2015 GMT). All of Canada will be closed at this point of the home side are involved. A day of mourning will have been held if they are not.
(I think the final will be America and Russia!!! but we'll see)

Re: Winter Olympics

I prefer the winter olympics rather than the summer one ... theres more accidents and seems more exciting ..especially in the ice hockey (when beating each other up) or the speed skating when they go flying into the boards or snowboarding and skiing .. can remember eddie the eagle .. i think that was the first one i watched!!!

Yes, he was from Georgia, only 21 years old.
My brother who lives in Harwood sent me an e-mail yesterday to say that the Canadian National Anthem sucked! and was totally pi**ed and was going to bed, he even said the Aussie Anthem was better.
Well I hope the Games are good what with all the rain etc............. Washington and Philly should have sent some of their snow up the Canada.

Re: Winter Olympics

Think it would have been interesting/fun if the clowns from PETA who have been stirring things up for one of the US team (male ice dancer) wearing fur had taken their demonstration to the Native Americans who appeared at the opening ceremony about their "traditional" wearing of animal skins and feathers

Also enjoyed the light/laser show with the Whale and the Salmon ladder , pity they didn't include the Seals

On the whole the opening ceremony in my opinion was a good show, nice to see/hear the 'expanded' kd Lang

Canada will shut down at 7:30 pm EST as Canada and the US take to the ice .... it will be a barn burner of a game ... America and Russia? I don't be thinking so .... of the top 10 point getters in the NHL, 6 are Canadian .... But tonight's game will be great .... blood on the ice (And that doesn't mean there will be a demonstration of baby seal bashing at the end of the first period) .... It's our game, played on our ice; and I'm hoping that both the men and the women win gold.

It was a tight game ... don't get off watching curling too much, although I love to play the game ... don't worry about the result tho', Canada is always a strong team. Thousands play the sport over here; so, there is a large pool of talent to draw on ... in fact, the rink representing Canada is not the strongest that we could put out.

I have been looking at the ice dancing competitors.
True nationality doesn't seem to be the indicator of the country represented.
The Japs were born in USA and the Israelis were born in Russia

Re: Winter Olympics

I cant get into this winter Olympics thing. I mean, how can you someone get a gold medal for lying flat on your stomach on a sledge. Kids round here have been doing that on the coppice for years, when we get snow.
