Re: Affleck Does It Again ...

What a contrast- a proud, confident nation and one which has no pride or confidence left.

Not only that, it reinforces that lack of knowledge and ignorance becomes knowledge. Fiction becomes fact.

What I find annoying is that the yanks, with a rich enough history of their own, feel the need to hijack the history of others. If they want to distort the history of the Viet Nam war ... fine. It was their war; and it was their loss. Even the Krauts do a much better job. In "Das Boot" and "Stalingrad" they can explore the "human interest" aspect without concealing that they got their asses kicked.

The Americans can get it right, however. And the resulting movies are every bit as entertaining. "The Devil's Brigade" comes to mind.

And I'm sure the folks in la belle province will be devastated that you don't like them. Ah well; the Montreal Canadiens are doing well this year. This should console them.
The Devils Brigade is probably one of the best war films made, even had Michael Rennie playing general Mark Clarke

Damn right. A few weeks ago a hungry black cat came onto my front porch to munch on the food I put out for the strays and the 'coons. He decided to come in and spend the rest of his life being spoiled. I call him "Nigger" ... all cats who come into my home get names and their own food dishes; it means they belong, that they have a home. A buddy of mine asked me why I chose the name ... he was a little stoned; so he missed the obvious We all, as kids, have our heroes. I remember some of mine: Jimmy Mac, Ray Pointer, Our 'Enry, Douglas Bader, Guy Gibson ... well, you get the picture. So I told hime I named the cat after the pet of Wing Commander Guy Gibson V.C. .... He asked why I didn't call it "Guy" or "Gibson"; and I realized at that point that his pc-ism was occluding his common sense ... so I gave up and we had a few beers.
