Are UK Sit-Coms a thing of the past?

I caught 10 minutes of the Caroline Quentin sit com "Life of Riley" the other night, and it seems to have fallen into the same trap as other recent UK sitcoms like Outnumbered and Our Family. It places a lot of reliance on horrendously precocious child actors giving totally wooden performances and spewing out ludicrously unconvincing lines.

Where do they get these child actors from?

Its usually parents pushing their kids into doing something they were unable to do themselves gynn, the other half works as a chaperone on Waterloo Road and kids parents are a blood menace pushing there not so keen kids forward
