Bob Holness was one of the growing list of TV faces that we grew up with in the 1960s 70s and 80s, who are now passing on. Other recent examples have been Robert Robinson and Jimmy Saville

Each time I hear one of them has died, I feel a little bit of my childhood has gone too.

Further to BG's post, the American actor Barry Nelson was the first to play Bond, and the character was called Jimmy Bond in an adaptation of Casino Royale.

correct,he was credited as playing 007 but he was called jimmy bond,so as i said b4 bob holness was the 1st person to play JAMES BOND on a public broadcast,
