Downton fever has hit America -it's also on in Italy at the moment (first series -awful to watch it dubbed though). After winning 6 Emmy's will they win the Golden Globes this evening?
It seems even Vogue will be getting in on the act and doing a photographic service on Downton costumes. Big success all round which is good for British TV. (My Xmas CD still hasn't arrived though -hope it isn't lost in the post!) The Cast of PBS’s “Downton Abbey” in New York : The New Yorker

It seems that Series Three will have a new character in Lady Grantham's mother, to be played by Shirey Maclean. Should be a great new "foil" for the Dowager Duchess - I expect sparks will fly!
Shirley MacLaine To Join 'Downton Abbey' For Season 3 If, at some point, they decide to bring in a "father" for Lady G., I would suggest Warren Beatty -or would that be a bit incestuous?

I remember they always used to take their earings off to answer the phone -didn't seem to bother for the cat-fights though!
This is one of the best -surely Dame Maggie will not lower herself to this level....

Shirl's quite a gurl.
Near legendary status. Favourite films Sweet Charity, and when she was a lezzed up school marm with Audrey Hepburn, in The Children's Hour. There should be loads of mileage in this cultural clash. I wouldn't like to bet on who the victor will be.

I saw Shirley MacLaine sometime in the 1970s in a show in Southport. My favourite film of hers is The Apartment.
