Alas, he bowed out a couple of seasons ago although his assistant Sarah Jane is still going strong after 38 years. That's some staying power.

That's good to hear.
Though those platform boots must be a bit of a killer, now she's in her sixties.

It was thought in some circles that she might be more of a comfortable shoes type of girl nowadays but then she had a go at getting married which put her back in the high heels.
For a woman in her sixties, she looks mighty fine.

Re: dr who...
I see that the BBC are starting to shoot their Dr Who Xmas special which will be based on Dickens's A Christmas Carol. It will star - other than the usual cast - Katherine Jenkins who most of you are aware is the opera star who looks like she should really be in a Califonia hard core porn movie. Also in there is Michael Gambon - old Dumbledore himself! I guess given the theme of the show it is not too hard to work out what part he'll be playing. It all seems rather weird..singing tarts, ghosts and monsters in dustbins or whereever.
I suspect I'll be sticking to my goose.

The programme is in safe hands with Steven Moffatt, I wouldn't worry.
It seems to have become BBC policy to release statements to the press about Doctor Who which are likely to incense long-time fans. It'll end up being just as enjoyable as every other episode.

Katherine Jenkins: the first opera singin ' porn star - sounds good!
But isn't this the last Dr Who there'll ever be? I heard the myth was there would only be 11 of them and this current actor is the 11th!

There are 13 altogether.
I'm hoping the series goes the distance and we get all 13, although if they contrive some way of keeping it going or start all this 'Son of Doctor Who' crap then I'll be bitterly disappointed.

For any other trivia buffs out there, it's referenced in the Fifth Doctor adventure Mawdryn Undead and the Eighth Doctor's first story (the television movie or sometimes The Enemy Within).

Saw it on Friday night, a truly excellent show with plenty of nods to the past which will give long term fans a warm glow. The show itself is actually a sequel to the Third Doctor adventure Carnival of Monsters.
The tickets are expensive and don't even think about merchandise (the programmes are a tenner) but it's a once in a lifetime experience and Matt Smith's involvement is very cleverly done.
