Festival of Rememberance

Sod the X Factor results. Turned over at 9 to watch this as I have done almost every year. Never fails to bring a tear to my eye. Very moving, but uplifting in parts.

Some great instrumentals from the forces' bands, and some good vocals from Haley Westernrau, Katherine Jenkins, Russell Watson..and in particular Jonathan Ansell with his rendition of Here's to the Heroes...first class

Anyone else watch it?

Yes I watched it, a very fitting tribute to all who have lost their lives serving this country.

No, as you can tell from the other thread, my Saturday nights are all about the X factor.

I shall be attending Rememberance service tomorrow though.

Re: Festival of Rememberance

There was a lovely programme on Century this afternoon too Caz .. in between appropriate songs, lots of true blogs read out from soldiers, their girlfriends, wifes, mums and dads and comrades, all who had experiences of our lads fighting in Iraq/Afghanistan. Had me in tears.

Service, Not self.

Who would we be without their sacrifice? Every generation owes a debt.

Re: Festival of Rememberance

Watched the Cenotaph ceremony this morning too. All those people from varying regiments/organisations that were involved in the wars that still feel the need to honour our dead. Can only admire the skill too in the way the British Legion organise the Poppy Appeal. Felt very proud watching the old and new soldiers.

Saw the little one in Oswaldtwistle this afternoon .. not quite the same and small procession, but a sign of respect nonetheless. Took a couple of pictures, afraid got camera shake due to the cold and rain, but you can get an idea of the much smaller scale. Loved the man walking with his dog which had a doggy raincoat on.

Was speaking to the Observer photographer beforehand, who had come to photo something entirely different at the Theatre; he had already been to five and was off to Rossendale to photo another. Good that each little township has their own.

Re: Festival of Remembrance

The parade in Ossy always came past my home, down Merlin Drive, but they went straight down Union Road this year. Was talking to PB later and he said that because a lot of the marchers were getting older they had requested the parade be shortened, I just wondering if this was the case at other services in Hyndburn

My husband and son took part in the Ossy parade.

They thought the parade was shortened because of the hideous weather.

No Lilly, it was in the advert in the Obs last Friday, it gave the route and it said the parade will leave Thwaites street at 2pm down Union Road to the Cenotaph
