Filthy Cities

Anyone else watching this .... its on bbc 2 .. medieval london.

This is the one that you can get a scratchcard from the local library ... and scratch it when it tells you ....

ok its making my stomach turn ... but its interesting ...

I caught the back end of the prog Jen, didn't quite fancy that Black Death though, seems he's looking at Paris next week

The story about the toilet overhanging the street made me wince - unbelievable that people chose to stay there. Poo and plague isn't my idea of fun.

Tenuous link: I caught a program a day or so later about an American couple who caught Bubonic Plague from hiking in the mountains (somewhere in USA). Rats in that region are carriers even today. After some antibiotics the woman recovered pretty quickly, the man was in a coma for three months and had his feet amputated. Makes you think.

It showed them in the lab still working on these diseases, no doubt its probable through this type of work that we now have a cure for many illnesses that were certainly fatal in those days
